Nail Files Linkup - 8/31

Friday, August 31, 2012

Do you use Instagram? I spent last night trying to figure it out. It is a pretty simple concept but the computer programs are not very user friendly. I now have an Instagram Badge on my site which I will keep updated as soon as I figure out how to get new pictures to post on it. Right now there is a picture of my husband and his cat playing World of Warcarft I took to practice.

Back to nails... This week for Nail Files I did a Minnie Mouse design. I didn't think of it when I was making it, but I used polish from the Vintage Minnie Mouse Collection and it has big dots on it like her skirt.

I think this red is delightful. It isn't a pure red. It's a shimmer with flecks of pinkish-purple in it. It is a little sheer so I had to put on three coats to make it opaque. I adore the big dots. They make me laugh.

I used:
OPI I'm All Ears
Folkart Metallic Champagne

Guest Post - Essie Rae

Thursday, August 30, 2012

Hello Everyone!  I am Essie Rae and I live over at www.iHeartPrettyPolish.com.  I would like to thank Lisa for presenting me with the opportunity to do a guest post on her blog.  Lisa and I started blogging around the same time and I have enjoyed watching her blog grow.

It was hard to decide which polish I would use for this guest post.  I have been loving indie polishes lately, but I still have a love for OPI, Zoya, Essie, and various drugstore brands.  I finally decided that I would show you one of my all-time favorites (and easy to find) polishes - Ulta "Moody Blues".

Not only is the formula of this polish perfect, but the color is a gorgeous true blue.  Many may shy away from blue nail polish, but I feel this blue isn't as in-your-face BLUE as lots of others on the market.  It's on the darker side - it's almost navy blue, but it's not so dark that it looks black.

I have a bunch of Ulta nail polishes and I have enjoyed every single one.  The formula is always opaque in one or two coats and the brush is a perfect size.  When friends ask for recommendations and don't want to spend an arm and a leg on a color that they aren't too sure about, I always direct them to the Ulta polishes.  These polishes are usually on sale for 2 for $6 or buy 1 get 1 free and they have so many cool/unique shades and finishes.  So if you aren't sure about trying a unique or bold shade, ease into it with an Ulta nail polish.

Favorite Things - Stripes

What is your favorite thing? ...At least when it comes to nail art? Today in My Favorite Things Nail Art Challenge it is stripes. I made these opposing striped, pink and blue nails with my striper and they didn't turn out as straight as I would have liked them, but still the colors are fun and I am happy with the design.

I used:
OPI Teal the Cows Come Home
Americana Pistachio Mint
Americana Poodleskirt Pink
Americana Purple Cow

Pink Wednesday - Bubble Gum

Wednesday, August 29, 2012

I love having an excuse for collecting more of these cute pink polishes. I have seen a day for doing teal too but I don't think I like teal enough to do a design or polish every week. If you could have a day for your favorite color of polish, what would it be?

This week I did another polish from Sparkles by Julie called Bubble Gum. It's a pink polish with purple glitter in it. I was a little disappointed that the glitter had all sunk to the bottom and I couldn't get it to stir back up.

It covered easily in two coats. I love this shade of pink. It's darker than the ones we've seen lately, but still, not too dark. It the perfect shade for Bubble Gum.

Nail Art Tuesday - Glossy Moons

Tuesday, August 28, 2012

Do you like black nail polish? Well, you're going to love this nail art design! This week for Nail Art Tuesday I decided to bring over one of the designs from my Etsy Shop. And not just any design, the one that has gotten the most views and the most "favorites" (equivalant to "likes" in Facebook).  I think it's very classic, yet gothic at the same time. What are your thoughts?

I used:
OPI Black Onyx
Essie Matte About You

Here are the ones in my shop...

I never wore black nail polish much before I hit on this design but I think this makes black look sophisticated and refined. Would you wear this?

Added later: I almost forgot that I wanted to start a new thing on Tuesday's only. You can put a link to a picture of an example of your nail art in the comments section. I look forward to seeing all of your pictures!

Where I Work & Blog - More About Me

Monday, August 27, 2012

As you may know I have an online shop on Etsy (http://LisasImpressiveNails.etsy.com) and recently I did a page of pictures that told the story of where I do my work. I thought you might find it interesting too. So here are they are...

I make my nails and write my blog in a spare bedroom of our house I call my office.

I have room for 180 polishes. When these racks are full I'll have to pick the best ones and get rid off the rest. I also have two plastic bins of acrylic paints.

I love making nails. It is the best way I can think of to spend my days!

I practice all of the time to better my craft.

Storage and shipping doesn't take up much room with something as small as nails.

Blogging gives me a chance to hear what others have to say about nails. (Keep the comments coming!)

Nail Technician is my fourth career. I have previously worked with people with disabilities, in education making teaching materials, and as an academic advisor at a university. I love painting nails best though.

Do you have a career or hobby that you love? What is it?

Summer Saturday Linkup - 8/25

Saturday, August 25, 2012

I'm sorry my post is so late today. I must be getting sick or something. I meant to take a quick nap and I slept for five hours! I have never done that before or I would have set an alarm. Anyway....

I did these pastel summer flowers on my fingers for the Summer Saturday Linkup. (They were inspired by a Robin Moses design. I like her flower designs.)

Our linkup has kind of fallen apart and we have few participants. If you would like to join our linkup, contact me at editor@lisasnailobession.com. We are switching to Fall Friday's in a few weeks.

Nail Files Linkup - 8/24

Friday, August 24, 2012

We're celebrating Back To School this week, so I have another design in that theme for you. It certainly isn't new, but I wanted to try it as with the last one. You see, I don't have kids so I've never had a reason to think about Back To School before. This is all new to me!

I put L+B on the ring finger because "B" is for Brian, my elementary school boyfriend (if you can call it that). I definitely had a crush on him! Forever after I have thought that redheaded little boys are adorable!

The link-up for the other participants is here...

Manicure/Pedicure Friday - Mango Hand Peel

I am worried that you will think I have some sort of deal with Cuccio Naturale when I just bought a lot of product from them because I like them... If you haven't guessed we are trying another Cuccio Naturale product for manicure/pedicure day today. I have wanted to try their Mango Hand Peel for a while now and this gave me an excuse.

It has natural Jojoba micro beads, alpha hydroxy acid, and seaweed crystals to exfoliate and lift dead skin cells from the hand and make it appear softer looking.

It's really simple to use. First you massage it into the skin in a circular motion. Then rinse off with a warm moist towel.

Follow that with one of their Lyte Ulter-Sheer Body Butters (available on my blog sale). I used Lavender & Chamomile. They suggest that for more intense hydration you can add the Grapeseed Anti-Oxidant Oil, Butter Blends, and/or Deep Dermal Transforming Wrap Treatment.

I liked the peel but I didn't see much difference between it and the Pomegranate & Fig Daily Skin Polisher from last week. They both exfoliate the skin equally well. I guess the biggest plus for today's peel is the scent. It smells delicious! I don't see a need to have both though.

Cuccio Naturale products are available at Amazon (which I now have a link to here on my blog), at Sears, and at some salons (to name a few places).

Do you have a favorite exfoliatant? Do you ever exfoliate your hands?

Favorite Things - Favorite Food

Thursday, August 23, 2012

I have another installment due in the My Favorite Things Nail Art Challenge. Today we are supposed to paint our favorite food on our nails. Well... the only food I have learned to paint is a cupcake...but that's OK. I love all things that are sweet, including cupcakes, so it works out. We'll just imagine that underneath that frosting is a chocolate cupcake and everything will be perfect. Chocolate is my favorite. Chocolate anything is my favorite!

Here are the other participant's designs:
