Sparkling Saturday - Kona

Saturday, September 29, 2012

I had to do one more summery design because I found this blue polish that reminds me of the blue water of Hawaii. In fact, it is called Kona. I saw this shade of blue and thought it was so unusual and beautiful that I had to have it. I painted an average flower on it because I have tried a hibiscus before and it looks terrible.

This polish is from Soulstice. Just a reminder that it is three free, free of toluene, formaldehyde and dibutyl phthalate, but it is also vegan and cruelty free! It took three coats to look completely filled in.

I used:
OPI Original Nail Envy (as a base coat)
Soulstice Spa Kona
Americana True Blue
Americana Spa Blue
OPI Top Coat

I haven't gotten much interest in my Saturday linkup. If it doesn't pick up I'll disband it.

Fall into Autumn - Football

Friday, September 28, 2012

Do you have a favorite football team? I don't watch television regularly but I live in Boise were everybody is a fan of the college football program, the Broncos. I guess haven't live in Boise long enough to catch the fever? The theme for our nail art this week in Fall into Autumn is "Football". I just did a generic football field and football since I'm not a big fan.

I used:
OPI Original Nail Envy (as a base coat)
OPI Jade is the New Black
Americana Bright Yellow
Ceramcoat Burnt Umber
Ceramcoat White
OPI Top Coat

Nail Files Linkup - Sky Blue Sparkles

What color are you really in to right now? For me, it used to be purple. I was always attracted to new shades of purple polish. But right now it's blue! I came across this Julep Maven polish that was so striking I had to have it and do a design with it. I first was going to do daisies all over it, but not only have you seen that it isn't summer anymore. So I did something a little less summery.

I used:
OPI Original Nail Envy (as a based coat)
Julep Maven Claire
Whimsical Nail Polish by Pam Nimbus
OPI Top Coat

Here is "The Nail Files" button. Click on it to see what the other participant's put in the linkup...

Zainy NailZ - A Review

Thursday, September 27, 2012

Today I am swatching some beautiful indie polishes from Zainy NailZ, a relatively new shop on Etsy. The owners are Zoe and Missy. Zoe loved nail polish from the time she was young. In fact, she loved all shiny and sparkly things. Once she was able to grow her nails long, her love of polish flourished. She started making franken polish. Then to support that habit she got a small start -up loan and Zainy NailZ was born. She said of the beginning, "We had a steep learning curve on polish consistency, suspension, pigments, glitter that bleeds, and most of all photography. Boy, we took some bad photos, especially when the good camera was in the shop and we tried to use an iPhone." Zoe and Missy didn't go in to the polish world with their eyes closes, but they learn more about color trends, internet marketing, photography and social media every day.

Zainy NailZ would like to offer my readers a 15% discount. Just enter...

...NailObsession15...

...from now until November 1st.

The polishes that they sent me to swatch are lovely. First, we'll start with "Rose Gold". It has gold micro-glitter in a rosy-pink base. Unlike many indie polishes it covers in two coats. The formula is excellent!

"Glass Slipper" is a blue polish with silver micro-glitter in it. It covered in two coats as well. I put this one on last so that I could wear it for awhile.

The best is saved for last..."Destiny". It is a purple polish with gold and red micro-glitter in it. It can cover in two coats, but this picture has three because I wanted the color to be a little deeper.

I encourage you to check out their Etsy Shop...and don't forget the 15% discount!

ABC Nail Art Challenge - C is for Chinchilly

In the ABC Nail Art Challenge I went with "C" is for Essie's "Chinchilly". "Chinchilly" is a dark gray polish. Most of Essie's polishes are thin and watery and the first coat doesn't look good at all. But the second coat looks good and it usually only takes two or maybe three coats to cover. This polish followed suit.

To make nail art out of this design I painted little peach flowers on the ring finger and thumb.

I used:
OPI Original Nail Envy (as a base coat)
Essie Chinchilly
Americana Peaches 'n Cream
Americana Terra Coral
Americana Razzle Berry
OPI Top Coat

I used:
OPI Original Nail Envy (as a base coat)
OPI DS Radiance
Americana Electric Pink
Americana Poodleskirt Pink
Ceramcoat Hydrangea Pink
OPI DS Top Coat

Here are the other A's...

Pink Wednesday - Shattered Heart

It's "Pink Wednesday" and I am swatching a bright pink polish with black glitter and hearts in it called "Shattered Heart" by KBShimmer. I was so excited for this polish! The pink and the little heart and everything, but I was a little disappointed that the glitter and hearts didn't come out of the bottle easily. In fact, you had to dig for them a bit. I love the color though and it covered nicely. It's such a bright, neon pink it looks like it could glow in the dark!

As much as I complain about getting the glitter out of the bottle, the opposite is true about the base. It is a creamy consistency and the perfect formula. I have only tried one KBShimmer's polishes so far but I love it for that. I used three (3) coats in this picture.

I used:
OPI Original Nail Envy (as a base coat)
KBShimmers Shattered Heart
OPI Top Coat

Nail Art Tuesday - With a Bow on Top

Tuesday, September 25, 2012

Yesterday was a bust! I realized that I only had three of the four Essie Breast Cancer Polishes, so I ordered the one I am missing and will show it to you later. (I didn't know there were four...I thought there were only three.) As for the "Cloudy Days" nails, I had them all done and photographed, but decided at the last minute I didn't like them. So those I will do over and they will come to you at a later time too. Sorry yesterday's posts didn't work out!

Today's nails for "Nail Art Tuesday" are adorable! I found a couple of pictures in an online magazine and combined them to come up with this simple, yet fun and cute design. The bow is plastic and I got it on E-bay. I was surprised at how strongly the bow stuck to the nail with just clear polish! (I only wore the design for a day though.)

As you know, I love pink nail polish, so this is a particularly cute design to me. I think pairing it with black makes it POP and I love the bigger dots!

I used:
OPI Original Nail Envy (as a base coat)
Essie Good Morning Hope
OPI Black Onyx
Americana Poodleskirt Pink
Ceramcoat Black
Plastic bows I purchased from E-bay
OPI Top Coat

Girly Girl Nail Art Challenge - Inspired by the Runway

Sunday, September 23, 2012

I don't keep up with the fashions on the runway. I wait for a year or so after they have been mutilated and messed with and trickle down to the masses and end up in department stores to buy off the rack. Suffice it to say, this challenge was a little bit hard for me to do, since I don't follow designers. But I have heard of a few, and I have heard of Jimmy Choo, so I looked at his website and found a bag that had fabric that was easy to mimic. I e-mailed the company to see if I could get permission to put the photo of the bag on my blog and they never got back to me so I'll link it here.

This is the nail design that mimics the fabric...

I used:
OPI Original Nail Envy (as a base coat)
OPI Black Onyx
Whimsical Nail Polish by Pam Nimbus
OPI Top Coat

This is the schedule of tasks...
