China Glazes's Holiday Joy - A Review

Thursday, November 29, 2012

I just realized it's been awhile since I've swatched a collection for you. Today I have the China Glaze Holiday Joy Collection. As soon as I got done with it I took it to the salon and the other tech love it. It has been popular for pedicures too. There are plenty of glitters and I love the red shades. They nailed Christmas red with Red Satin!

This is the collections. They are (left to right, top row first then bottom) Glistening Snow, Champagne Kisses, Angel Wings, Winter Holly, Glitter All the Way, Pizzazz, (bottom row) Blue Bells Ring, Pure Joy, Red Satin, With Love, Merry Berry, and Cranberry Splash.

Rather than repeat myself I'll say that all were made well. There wasn't a watery or soupy one in the bunch. They went on smoothly and didn't leave stoke marks from the brush.

Glistening Snow: This is more of a topper but goes on opaque with three coats. It is is holographic silver and looks great over the blue or any of the reds.

Champagne Kisses: This is a copper-y color polish. that can be worn on its own or as a topper. It takes three coats to be opaque. It is a fine glitter polish.

Angel Wings: This is also fine gold glitter polish. It is the same as the two that have previously talked about, it can be a topper or worn on its own. It also takes three coats to be opaque.

Winter Holly: This is Christmas green! It is a glitter polish that goes on opaque in two coats. It is a glitter polish.

Glitter All the Way: This is a fun polish that has small red, green, gold, (and some other colors in small amounts) glitters in a clear polish in it. It is meant to be a topper but I have swatched it for you on its own. To get the look I have here I put on three coats.

Pizzazz: This is similar to Glitter All the Way. It is meant to be a topper. It has medium sized glitters in silver, turquoise, purple-pink, (and some other colors in small amounts) in a clear polish in it. I used three coats to get full coverage.

Blue Bells Ringing: I had mixed feelings about this one. I loved it because it is such a beautiful blue, but when I took it off it was blue man group! I had blue everywhere and it was hard to get off! So I didn't like it because of that. It is a shimmer polish and easily covers in two coats.

Pure Joy: This has medium red glitters and small gold glitters in it. It is also meant to be a topper but is swatched here on its own. To get opacity requires at least three coats.

Red Satin: China Glaze really nailed Christmas red with this one in my opinion! I love all the shades of red in this collection, but this is my favorite! It makes my Christmas designs that much prettier. This is a creme polish a goes opaque in two coats.

With Love: This is a beautiful red! A slightly lighter shade than Red Satin but ready for the holiday parties. It is a creme polish a goes opaque in two coats.

Merry Berry: This is a gorgeous red! It's so dark it's almost purple. It bring thoughts of raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, etc. all mixed together to make a delectable Christmas punch. It makes a delicious color for the nails too! It is a creme polish a goes opaque in two coats.

Cranberry Splash: Finally we have Cranberry Slash. This brings to mind stringing cranberries for trimming the Christmas tree. This color is a very Christmas-y red too. It is a shimmer polish and reaches opacity in two coats.

I hope this helps you choose your nail color for those upcoming Christmas parties!

Pink Wednesday - Miss Wohelo

Wednesday, November 28, 2012

I love Whimsical Nail Polishes by Pam and Miss Wohelo is no exception! It is a bright pink, almost watermelon, with some holographic glitter in it. Unlike most of Pam's polishes which take three coats to reach opacity, this only required two coats. It applies evenly without leaving signs of brush stokes. I don't know of any duplicates for this polish. It is original as far as I know.

You definitely should check out Whimsical Nail Polish by Pam. She has her Holiday Collection out and it is super cute. I will have to get it and swatch it for you (if I can afford it).

I used:
OPI Natural Nail Base Coat
Whimsical Nail Polishes by Pam Miss Wohelo
OPI Top Coat

Nail Files Linkup - Purple Glitter

Friday, November 16, 2012

This is another post I have been hanging on to for awhile but I finally went ahead and used it. I didn't used it before because I felt it was too winterish (is that a word???) during the summer and fall months. But we are getting closer to winter now.

I love purple. I almost always wear it on my toes. This is a fun pairing. It has one of the Essie Yogaga colors underneath and I'm not sure when the glitter came out (last winter maybe???). Do you like it?

I used:
OPI Natural Nail Base Coat
Essie Boxer Shorts
Essie Stroke of Brillanance
OPI Top Coat

ABC Nail Art Challenge - J is for Jewels on Just Spotted the Lizard

J is for Jewels on Just Spotted the Lizard

I love this duochrome polish. It flashes green, gold, and blue. In this pictures it mostly looks light green or gold. I had a hard time thinking of a J word to decorate these nails. But the rhinestones look marvelous, don't you think?

I used:
OPI Natutal Nail Base Coat
OPI Just Spotted the Lizard
Rhinestones I got from E-bay
OPI Top Coat

Guest Post - Alexis Leigh

Thursday, November 15, 2012

Hi everyone! My name is Alexis and I have a nail and beauty blog over at http://xoxoalexisleigh.blogspot.com/ I want to thank Lisa for asking me to guest post, I'm honored! And of course, I hope you all enjoy my post :D

I love nail art, it's just something I'm very passionate about but I'm not the best at it and sometimes I just don't have the time, energy, or patience to sit down and do it. Drip nails are some of the easiest nail art techniques in my opinion and I think they look pretty sweet too! I also have an obsession with galaxy nails but right now I feel like galaxy drips (although totally amazing) are a little overdone. So, I ended up just painting stars on my drips and adding holo glitter.

I used a LVX - Legendaire as my base, Ulta - Wild Night for my drips (which I freehanded on with a striper), a MASH nail art pen in silver for the starts, WingDustCollections - Dancing Queen for the holo top coat, and 2 coats of Cult Nails - Wicked Fast to seal the design.

I hope you guys liked this as much as I did! How do you feel about drip nails? Thanks again Lisa and all of you for having me!!!!

Nail Art Tuesday - Tiffany Blue Rose

Wednesday, November 14, 2012

I have been trying to master the rosebud for some time now and I determined that I just didn't have a small enough brush. I finally got it down on this design. What do you think? I wanted to do a white rose on Tiffany blue. This is as close to Tiffany blue as I could find. You wouldn't believe how hard it is to find!

I used:
OPI Natural Nail Base Coat
Orly Gumdrop
Ceramcoat White
OPI Top Coat

Preview of the Week to Come - 11/12

Monday, November 12, 2012

Well I almost made it! Monday I was supposed to post a group Christmas giveaway. But there was a death in the family of the family of the person who was supposed to get it together. So I don't know when it will be ready. I'll post it as soon as it is.

Today I had scheduled the Halo Hues Collection from Color Club, but when I opened the box I realized that they had sent me two of one and none of the other, so I had to scrap that. (I ordered it from New York so there is no telling when they'll get around to correcting it.) This is the time when an emergency post would have come in handy!

This week I am planning...

  • Tuesday - For "Nail Art Tuesday" I am doing Tiffany blue nails.
  • Wednesday - For "Pink Wednesday" I am doing Miss Wohelo from Whimsical Nail Polish by Pam and the "J" design in the "ABC Nail Art Challenge".
  • Thursday - I have a guest blogger, Alexis Leigh.
  • Friday - For the "Nail File Linkup" I am planning a purple glitter design.
  • Saturday - The "Beauty Blogazon Weekly Roundup" is expected. The "Fall into Autumn" theme for this week is "Harvest" and I haven't thought of anything for that theme yet.
  • Sunday - On Sunday I will shoot for the Preview.
This is the plan for this week. Let's hope all goes well!

Fall into Autumn - Autumn Dots

I had done these nails for something else that fell though and I didn't like how my "Autumn Dots" turned out for this project so I figured there were enough dots in fall enough colors that I could use this design for the "Fall into Autumn - Autumn Dots" assignment. What do you think?

They are actually Rasta nails and are inspired by a design by Robin Moses.

I used:
OPI Ridge Filler
OPI Jade is the New Black
OPI O'Hare and Nails Look Great!
OPI Need Sunglasses?
Accent Razzle Red
Americana Leaf Green
Americana Bright Yellow
OPI Top Coat

Here are the other participant designs...
