Tuesday Nail Art - True Blue

Tuesday, August 26, 2014

purchased by me This nail art was hard to come buy today! I did two others first and didn't like them. My boyfriend liked them but they were just not good enough to me. My hand is too shaky from my stroke. I need more practice! When I was doing nails before I practiced everyday.

I allocated one of those tape dispensers for my striping tapes today. I have seen it done by other nail artists and its very convenient. It isn't necessary to hold everything and cut and make sure the end doesn't disappear on the roll. It worked great except I still had to cut it with scissors because if I tried to tear it off the end it stretched and curled.

So this is what I came up with...

Blogger Bragger Summer Nail Challenge - Week 4 - Polka-dots

Sunday, August 24, 2014

purchased by meI finally got all my boxes of "nail stuff" unpacked and you wouldn't believe how much stuff I found! I had 7 or 8 boxes. I didn't realize how much money I had spent in the last few years on polish and nail related stuff. I had a duplication of a lot of stuff too because I worked in a salon for a while and bought stuff to keep there too. I have put some of it on E-bay. Hopefully I can get some money back out of it.

Anyway...the challenge for this week in the "Blogger Bragger Summer Nail Challenge"is Polka-dots. I had a China Glaze kit, On The Dot, so I didn't even have to pick out colors. (I love the colors in the kit!) Dots are easy, but not so much. It takes a lot to make them all uniform. I still haven't mastered that.

So here they are. Let me know what you think...

Busy Girl Nails - Watermelons

Saturday, August 23, 2014

purchased by meThe challenge this week for the "Busy Girl Nail Art Challenge" is watermelons and it was fun! I am pretty happy about how my nails turned out. Sadly though, watermelon season is almost over!

I have really enjoyed this summer except for the heat. My apartment doesn't have air conditioning and is has been miserably hot some days. But what makes it great is Kevin. I think after a long life I have finally found the one! My cats don't like the change since he has been here though. They feel neglected because they used to getting all of my attention. Now they have to share and they don't like that. They are very set in their ways because they are old, 18 years old.

Anyway...back to polish. See what you think of these...

Perlier Shea Butter White Lily Hand Cream - A Review

Friday, August 22, 2014

press sampleToday I'm going to do something I've never done before, review a hand lotion. This one I like especially well though. It is called Perlier Shea Butter White Lilly Hand Cream. Cream describes it better than lotion because it is luxuriously thick. But rubs in completely and doesn't leave my hands feeling greasy or waxy.

purchased by me

About a year ago, I wasn’t sure where to find my niche since I am a stay at home mom. Having a Visual Communications degree from Fashion Institute Design and Merchandising, Los Angeles campus (FIDM) and combination experiences working in the Merchandising department for retail stores many years; I’ve always been good with colors, design, and aesthetics. I also have worked on several fashion shows, wardrobe department for theater and commercial works, and print. I could never forget my passion on colors. After searching around on the internet, I discovered a phenomenal on nail art and swatches.

After seeing so many awesome nail art manicures, I was reminded how I used to love painting my nails since I was 7 years old. It was a cute bottle of purple glitter. I took it with me to school and showed it off to teachers and friends. I would carry it with me everywhere and reapplied as it needed. That was even before I knew about base and top coats.

Upon finding about subscription boxes services, I learned about Julep. It was my first time trying their polish. I got so excited to get some new colors and attempted doing some dotting nail art. I know it was so simple but I remembered how excited I had gotten to accomplish it.

Pink Wednesday - Hard Candy Fairy Ball

Wednesday, August 20, 2014

purchased by me
I love this polish! I picked up at Walmart a couple of months ago while I was waiting for a prescription. That's always dangerous...having unoccupied time near polish that's for sale! I don't know why I haven't tried it before now because it is super fun!

It needed an undie so I used Dazzle Dry Strawberry Macaroon which is a clean, bright pink. Almost bubble gum colored. It looks good over it, huh?

Nail Art Tuesday - Tranquil Gray Leaves

Tuesday, August 19, 2014

purchased by me
The inspiration for this design was one of Robin Mose's designs. Of course hers was much better but I loved it so I had to try it. I'm glad my hands didn't forget how to paint leaves while I was on break! I'll admit I cheated a little bit. I went over my own tutorial, "How to Make Leaves". It was very helpful in reminding me how to do it. I think I'll use it as a rerun for my Tutorial this Sunday so if your curious and you haven't already seen it you might want to sign up (in the right column).

So here is the finished design. What do you think?

Zoya Naturel Deaux - A Review

purchased by me
I haven't reviewed a collection since I started up again. I'm thrilled to start with this one because I love the palette! The colors are rich and make me think of sinful deserts! Berries and chocolate. Mmmmm!

Zoya is probably my favorite polish right now too. They are always consistently good and this is no exception.

The colors are (from left to right, top to bottom): Madeline, Aubrey, Marney, Spencer, Chanelle, and Emilia.

Preview of the Week to Come - 8/17

Sunday, August 17, 2014

I just realized that I forgot to submit anything to the roundup this week, so there won't be a roundup posted today. Darn it anyway!

This has been another busy week. I had a successful launch of my new business, My MONTHLY Stunning Nails. I hope I can get even more people to sign up. I am having some nail blogger's review my kits, hopefully before too long, and with luck that will encourage more growth. I also made a landing page which took a little time. It's all very exciting to me!

School is starting soon. It's amazing how fast the summer went!

This week I am planning...

Blogger Bragger Summer Nail Challenge - Week 3 - Embellishment

Saturday, August 16, 2014

purchased by me
I still haven't unpacked all my nail boxes. As I sit here in my office/polish room I am surrounded with half packed/unpacked boxes and I've been here for over year! Suffice it to say that I haven't found all of my nail art elements. But I did have this box of bows...so that is my embellishment for this challenge.

As I said in my last post, I just got the Magical Pixie Summer Collection Sampler from Zoya a day or so ago and I am looking for any excuse to use them. They really appeal to me! So I combined the purple one, Arlo, with a green polish from China Glaze, Re-Fresh Mint, and added a bow.

Arlo by Zoya is described as "a glittering violet amethyst in the best-selling ultra textured, matte, holographic Magical Pixie formula". Although it is a redder purple than the other purples in my design, it still works.

Busy Girl Nails - Favorite Summer Color

This has got to be my favorite week of the "Busy Girl Nail Art Challenge" because it was just choose your "Favorite Summer Color". Well...I'm sure you can guess what color I chose. It's my favorite all year round...PINK!

I used Ginni by Zoya. I just got part of the Magical Pixie Collection that came out earlier this summer and the first thing I wanted to see on my hands was Ginni.  I think it's incredible! Zoya uses these words to describe it: glittery, textured, matte, and holographic. Fortunately, I think the pictures turned out okay.  It always looks better in person though.

I don't think I was supposed to put a top coat on it. But I prefer the shiny over the matte finish. Especially for this particular polish!

Baroness X Selected Polish - A Review

Friday, August 15, 2014

 press sample
I'm getting this out really late because my computer has been acting weird tonight. I hope its' just temporary! It took me hours to edit the pictures!

I am so excited to share this indie polish with you. I think it is the best handmade polish I have ever used! It is from Baroness X. She sent me Malibu Melon, Kawaii or Die, and Sugar Plummed. (Very creative names!)

Malibu Melon: The first one I swatched was Malibu Melon. I am always drawn to pink polish. It is a pinkish-coralish creame that goes on like butter. I love the formula. It is easily opaque in two coats.

Pink Wednesday - Dream a Little Dream

Wednesday, August 13, 2014

purchased by me
I had Revlon's Girly on the schedule for today, but I looked everywhere for it and couldn't find it. It was in this bag that I keep polish in the last time I saw it. Oh well, Girly was popular about a year ago when I took a break from blogging. That's when I first bought it. I think that they have added it to their regular line because I've seen it with the Revlon polish in Walmart recently.

I have to admit I was a little disappointed with the polish that I used instead, Deborah Lippmann's Dream a Little Dream of Me. It is gorgeous in the bottle, but I had no idea that it would be such a light shade of pink when I got it on! I want some COLOR on my nails. As I have said, pink is my favorite color so I love a beautiful pink (that you can see)! My mom would probably like this a lot (but she is 70). Tell me what you think...

Tuesday Nail Art - Poppin' Peach Flower

purchased by me
I found the inspiration for this design on Pinterest. I find that a great place to go for inspiration when I'm drawing a blank. There are so many pictures of nails on there! I can find something I like and change it up a little and waa-laa! A new nail art design!

I need some more practice painting to get myself back to the level I was at a year ago. I'll admit I did the flower in this design three time before I was happy enough to photograph it...and I still think it could be better. I'm self critical. Kevin, my boyfriend, liked though.

Blogger Bragger Summer Nail Challenge - Glitter

Monday, August 11, 2014

purchased by me
This week in the Blogger Bragger Summer Nail Challenge the theme is glitter and I decided to break out and old polish...but one that I like a lot. It is Essie's Stoke of Brilliance. It came out when they first started offering their Effects line. I put it over China Glaze's Grape Pop and it turned out beautiful! I am really fond of purple nail polish. I usually have it on my toes at most times. Again I had a hard time capturing the beauty and depth of the glitter. I don't know what it is...if it's my light set up, or what. Just be aware that it's prettier in person.

This week didn't go as planned either. Oh, well. But I got most of what I planned done! I have been working on a project which, I am happy to say, is ready to launch today! I am putting together Nail Art Kits monthly and I'm very exited about them. I am trying to make them accessible to all levels of nail artists. I am working very hard on them.

Busy Girl Nails - Watercolor

purchased by me
It's time to challenge myself again. Today's theme in "Busy Girl Nails" is watercolor nails. I have only done them once before and had a hard time then. I bought a kit from China Glaze and found that the smaller cup helped a lot. With some trial and error they finally came out. I think they look great as an accent nail!

Do you like to do watercolor nails? What little tips do you have for making them easier and prettier?

Nail Art Tuesday - Dragonflies

Wednesday, August 6, 2014

purchased by me
I haven't painted on my nails for a year so I was pretty nervous about this post! I purposefully chose an easy thing to paint, dragonflies, so I couldn't mess it up too badly. But I have to say they turned out pretty good! (I could definitely use some practice though.)

China Glaze has come out with some pretty colors lately. I have to say I've been drawn to the multiple shades of beautiful greens.

Blogger Bragger Summer Nail Challenge - Ombre/Gradient

Tuesday, August 5, 2014

purchased by me
It's like being late to your own party! Here I set up this great nail challenge and I can't even get the first week done on time!

The theme for the first week was ombre/gradient. I did a gradient nail for you, mostly because I wanted the practice. I have only done them once before and I didn't think they turned out all that great. This time I bought a kit called "It's All Peachy" from China Glaze and I think they turned out OK. I think the top layer makes a huge difference in making the colors look blended. What do you think of them?

Later...
I'm disappointed about how the pictures turned out. I tried to do them with different lighting and camera settings but the light just bounced off the iridescent glitter and the bright orange polish. I wish I could show them to you in person...

Preview of the Week to Come - 8/4

This week didn't go as planned. I obviously didn't get everything done that I had on my preview. But I got my LLC (Limited Liability Corporation) written and I applied for my EIN (Employer Identification Number). I got some new nail art stuff for my store (http://mystunningnails.storenvy.com/) and ordered some more. I also ordered the polish I am reviewing for you this month. I have been busy updating my media kit and soliciting some reviews. ...As you can see I have been running around all week!

Although I usually do this on Sunday, I am previewing the week for you now. I will try to stay on schedule throughout the week...

This week I am planning...

Nails of the Day - Essie Belugaria

Saturday, August 2, 2014

purchased by me
I went to a concert last night...Motley Crue (yes it was GREAT!). I'm dating myself, but they were popular when I was young. Anyway, if you're anything like me, your thinking in advance about what you're going to wear on your nails. I decided to try Essie's Belugaria. It is black textured polish that is suppose to mimic caviar nails. I don't know if it quite does that, but it I like it anyway. It has some sparkles in it that I love.

The part that I didn't like was how easily it came off. I put it on before I got in the shower and it rubbed off on the ends when I washed my hair. (Maybe I just scrub too hard!) I had to touch up the ends on the way to the concert.

They are still beautiful though...what do you think?

Busy Girls Nail Challenge - Neons

purchased by me
During the month of August I am participating in a nail art challenge called "The Busy Girls". One of the sponsors is Arielle Thibodeaux who Guest Posted for this blog awhile ago when it was Lisa's Nail Obsession. I usually will be posting for this challenge every Friday, but we went to a concert out of town yesterday and I ran out of time! (It was great fun by the way!)

The  first challenge is neons. I love the colors but I tried to free-hand the fench tops and I'm not sure I'm very pleased with how they turned out. (I have a very unsteady hand due to damage from my stoke.) I will definitely use tape next time! I really like the design though. What are your thought?
