Nail Art Tuesday - Dry Brush Technique

Tuesday, September 30, 2014

purchased by me Nicole of "Nail Polish Wars" did a beautiful dry brush design this week so I thought I'd try the dry brush technique for the first time today. I used some colors from Fall 2012. I was surprised at how easy it was and I like the colors I chose.

Have you tried dry brushing before? Do you like the effect?

Blogger Bragger Summer Nail Challenge - Skittles

Sunday, September 28, 2014

purchased by me This is the last week of the "Blogger Bragger Summer Nail Challenge" and I have loved every minute of it. I like having broad themes that let the participates make diverse nails. There is no time to be sad though because we are launching right into the "Blogger Bragger Autumn Nail Art Challenge". The themes are broad again. They are just colors and as long as the design is mostly that color then it fits in the category. Here is the button...

There are more participants this fall, but always room for more. Anyone is welcome to join. Just visit us at https://www.facebook.com/groups/bloggerbragger/ and ask to join the group. You are also welcome to join Blogger Bragger if don't want to participate. You don't even need to be a blogger to be a part of Blogger Bragger or the Nail Art Challenge!

On to my nails for this week. They were again inspired by Pinterest. They were also inspired by some polish I got from Julep Maven a couple years ago. I got a matte brown and a matte gray. They seemed kind of "blah" when I got them, but they were really pretty on the nail.

I didn't have a deep gold that wasn't metallic, just a bright yellow. So I mixed a drop of brown on a paper plate. Hopefully I pulled it off. The other colors were a variety I had. I topped them with matte top coat and gold square studs. Here's what I ended up with...

Suicide Prevention Month - 9/27

purchased by me I just became aware that September in Suicide Prevention Month. I feel very strongly about this subject and am grateful for all the therapy I have had in my life that has helped me see that dying is not the best option for me. I am grateful for my good life now and that I can do what I like and be with the people that bring me up emotionally.

I did a little research on the Internet and found that "...in 2011 (the most recent year for which data are available), 39,518 suicides were reported, making suicide the 10th leading cause of death for Americans. In that year, someone in the country died by suicide every 13.3 minutes. (http://www.afsp.org/understanding-suicide/facts-and-figures)

If you are in crisis, call 1-800-273-TALK (8255) National Suicide Prevention Lifeline.

I looked everywhere to find out what the color of the ribbon was for Suicide Prevention and found  one site (http://awarenessribbongifts.com/awareness-ribbon-colors/) that said it was yellow so I did a yellow design for you.

Jessica Autumn in New York - A Review

Friday, September 26, 2014

purchased by me I have a review of Jessica's fall collection for you. I have been trying to get to it all month but this has been a bad month for me healthwise. It just seemed like too much to tackle when I wasn't feeling well. I wanted to get it done before the end of the month though because I have other things planned for next month.

Jessica's fall collection is called Autumn in New York and it is filled with striking colors. I had a hard time choosing a favorite. I'd put one on and think, this will be my favorite of the collection, until I put the next one on. It went on like that for several colors.

There are six polishes in this collection. Soho in Love, Mad for Madison, NY State of Mind, Blue Harlem, Meet at the Plaza, and Broadway Bound.

Nails of the Day - Zoya Kristen

purchased by me Today NOTD are Kristen by Zoya. It is a gorgeous periwinkle that works great as a backgroud for nail art...which is exactly what I did with it.

Actually I did these a few weeks ago when I was asked to do some nail art for a another website. I handpainted the little purple flowers and leaves with acrylic paints over the polish. Kristen is a creme polish so I use a pearlescent polish on top to get the glittery-sparkly look.

Flowers are my favorite thing to paint. I need to practice more though. What is your best/favorite thing to paint on nails?

Pink Wednesday - Zoya Sirena

Thursday, September 25, 2014

purchased by me I did these nails yesterday but I had a technician working on my computer all afternoon and evening so I couldn't post it. I thought they fixed it after the third technician looked at it but is still giving me fits!

Today's "Pink Wednesday" polish is Sirena by Zoya. It is a dark pink, almost red, and I decided to do alittle nail art for you. I polished the moons lavender (Julie by Zoya) and the tops dark pink (Sirena) and painted a dark purple line where they meet. To finish it off I used a purple bow on my index finger.

I love the combination of colors and the little bow just makes the design! Here is this weeks "Pink Wednesday"...

Nail Art Tuesday - Autumn Trees

Wednesday, September 24, 2014

purchased by meMy computer is not working properly. I think it has a virus. I had it scanned twice by the Geek Squad remotely and it is still giving me fits. I haven't had access to it all day that is why my post is so late.

My nail art today is inspired by both Pinterest and the fact that today (or rather yesterday by the time I get this written up) is the Autumnal Equinox, or the first day of fall. I did a fall tree with polish and acrylic paint. I think it looks really good but I could always improve.

Anyway, here is my nail art for today...

Harmony Gelish Vitagel - A Review Part 2

Monday, September 22, 2014

purchased by meOn the first of this month I told you that I'd report on my use of Harmony Gelish Vitagel. I have been using it as a base coat under my polish this month.

Guest Blogger - Carinae L'etoile

Carinae L'etoile agreed to do the Guest Post for this month and got to me in plenty of time to post on Thursday. But because I was feeling yucky last week I didn't get it posted. I hope you and she will forgive me. At last...here it is...

Since it's Thursday, I thought I'd do a Throwback Thursday post, in addition to my stuff on Instagram. I'm talking China Glaze OMG Collection. Have you seen it before?

I want to thank Lisa at My Stunning Nails for letting me do this post on her blog. Thank you, thank you!

I'm sure you've seen or at least heard of the China Glaze OMG Collection. It's what made Indie makers try to excel and re-create it. I've re-swatched this collection because I wanted to see how it's held up over the years. I believe this was first released in fall 2008, with the iconic Kaleidoscope coming out before then, I'd say sometime in early 2008 or fall 2007. Don't quote me on that, by the way!

Now that I've re-swatched this collection, there are a few things you have to know...it's faded a little. The colors aren't as vibrant and the holos aren't as holo-y as they used to be. I'm also missing a color - FYI (80810)...well, not so much missing as it broke in the move from Arizona to California. I have a back-up bottle, but it's in its own little collection; it's in the original 2bhawt collection box. No way I am removing it.

Anyway, all the photos below are two coats unless otherwise noted. The formulas are all still quick drying. I'd say China Glaze OMG Collection is still relevant in the nail polish world. Would you agree?

Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month

Monday, September 15, 2014

purchased by meThis design is in honor of Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month. Ovarian cancer is diagnosed in about 22,000 woman per year, usually in later stages because there is no screening for determining it. The best advocate is you. Knowing the symptoms and not letting them go on too long.

To learn more about Ovarian Cancer go to OvarianCancerAwareness.org as one source of information.

Blogger Bragger Summer Nail Challenge - Favorite Color

Friday, September 12, 2014

purchased by meIf you have been following my blog at all you know that my favorite color is pink. I love the color in anything...clothes, furniture, decor, and of course nail polish. I have two drawers in my helmers dedicated to pink.

I wanted to do something more than put on a pink polish for Favorite Color week in the Blogger Bragger Summer Nail Challenge. So I added a little peach to this design and tried to dress it up a bit with rhinestones. Hope you like it.
