Pink Wednesday - OPI, Morgan Taylor, and Essie (Breast Cancer Awareness)

Friday, October 31, 2014

purchased by me Well I ordered enough Breast Cancer Awareness polish collections for each week but they all came at the end of the month so I have three collections for today. OPI, Morgan Taylor, and Essie. Originally I was going to get the one by Jessica too but I could see that I wasn't going to get them done by the end of the month.

There are some nice shades of pink here so let's get started!

First we have OPI. Their collection is called Pink of Hearts and includes two polishes, one new and one from their standard collection.

Krush Korner Kometics Bubble & Trouble Halloween Collection

Tuesday, October 28, 2014

purchased by me
When I was deciding what to do this month I came across the Bubble and Trouble Halloween Collection and decided I had to swatch it. They are so cute and look so good on the nail. All of them are glitter toppers which is a polish type I adore. Karen, the owner and maker, has really come up with some cute polish for Halloween!

Ghost Whisperer: I started with the purple because I assumed it would be my favorite of the collection. It is a topper of purple glitter, but it flashes every color in the rainbow in the light. It is shown over Essie Boxer Shorts. I used one thick coat of this polish.

Blogger Bragger Autumn Nail Art Challenge - Green

purchased by me
This is the 4th week of the "Blogger Bragger Autumn Nail Art Challenge". Just wanted to make you all aware that you are welcome to join us for this challenge at anytime. So just jump in! Just visit us at https://www.facebook.com/groups/bloggerbragger/ and ask to join the group. The group isn't just for those in the challenge. If your just looking for a place to post your blog work, you can do that too.

The theme for today is green and my green design will not only fulfill the challenge but honor Depression Awareness Month. It's hard to compete with Breast Cancer Awareness. Not many people are even aware of it.

Depression Awareness has a personal meaning for me. I have struggled with depression most of my life. There is a great deal of misunderstanding of depression though. Once I had my Gynecologist tell me that if I'd just take a walk once in a while I wouldn't need medication. I was stunned!

Vampy Varnish wrote a good post honoring Depression Awareness Month. She says:
"...Clinical depression isn’t a mood. It isn’t the feeling when you fail a big test in school. It’s not the feeling of disappointment when you don’t get that job offer you wanted. It’s not the feeling you have every time you listen to The Cure. It’s a clinically diagnosed illness that disrupts your ability to go about normal life for weeks, months or even years. It doesn’t go away when you pet a cat. It doesn’t stop if you watch a funny movie, or get out of the house. Nothing can lift it except getting help from a professional and/or taking medications.

"Millions of people suffer from various forms of depression and it is nothing to be ashamed of or to hide. If you broke your arm you would go to the doctor for help. If you had diabetes you would seek help from a professional. This is no different, it just happens to take place in your brain. There is no shame in talking to a psychologist or psychiatrist or taking medication to help you. That’s why they are there! Do whatever it takes and whatever works for you, and you are on your way to getting yourself better."
For help with depression contact the the National Institute of Mental Health or a local mental health professional.

Here is my green design...

Nail Art Tuesday - Spiderwebs

purchased by me
I'm doing two posts for you tonight since I got behind because of the time I spent with my boyfriend in hospital this week.

I'm really happy about how these nails turned out! I did them twice. I guess you could call the first time a practice run. I haven't done a spider and spiderwebs for a couple of years. The second time I had the idea to polish my nails different colors which I think makes the design that much better! What do you think of this design?

OPI Peanuts Collection

Thursday, October 23, 2014

purchased by me
This has been a busy week. My significant other had back surgery and I have spent the majority of the last two days at the hospital. It has been a lot of hurry up and wait. I'm glad it's over I just hope it helps him.

I have Monday's post for you tonight. OPI's Peanuts Collection. I found it a little unimaginative...three blacks and and yellow, but it was actually more than that when I started putting it on my nails. It has some fun colors for dressing up for Halloween, which is what it is all about.

Good Grief!: We'll start with the yellow polish. The yellow of Charlie Brown's shirt. This is a fun color for dressing up but I wouldn't wear it on a daily basis. OPI polish almost always looks good in two coats and has a smooth formula. This is a creme polish.

Blogger Bragger Autumn Nail Art Challenge - Yellow

Sunday, October 19, 2014

purchased by me
The "Blogger Bragger Autumn Nail Art Challenge" began a couple of weeks ago.  I had a lot of people interested in it but only five posted this week. Please be aware that you can start this challenge anytime. So just jump in! Just visit us at https://www.facebook.com/groups/bloggerbragger/ and ask to join the group. You are also welcome to join us if don't want to participate. You don't even need to be a blogger!

This season the themes are just colors. That way nail artists of all levels can participate. People can make their nail art as complex as they want! It also allows for unlimited creativity. There should be a huge variety in the designs. The link-up last week was very diverse.

The theme for last week (I'm posting late) was yellow. I have never done a saran wrap design so I decided to try one for this challenge. I used pastel yellow and pink and they kind of got washed out by the lighting when I took pictures, but I really like how it turned out.

Hearts & Glass Polish by Chrislie Selected Polish - A Review

Saturday, October 18, 2014

 press sample
I had originally scheduled this post for the 2nd, but when I began to post it I decided that my swatches weren't good enough. (It was during that time I was sick and had a death in the family.) So I've been trying to work on it in between other stuff. It's finally done now!

This is a new polish to me, Hearts & Glass by Chrislie. They sent me five polishes, three cremes and two metallics. They are (in order from left to right) Divine Diva, Naughty Narcissist, Juliette's Blush, Glinda's Glam, and Hungry Heart.

Sick Lacquers Halloween Polish - A Review

Friday, October 17, 2014

 press sample
Today I have some fun Halloween Indie nail polish from Sick Lacquers. I had so much fun looking at the Etsy site. There are tons of cute polish there and eventually I started to make a list of all the ones I wanted to try. They are so creative! The shop is owned by a mother a son team.

For Halloween Peggie and Jonathan sent me three polishes, two glitter and a shimmer. They are called Scarecrow Stuffing, Bride of Frankenstein, and Princess Puke respectively. Here is a picture of them...

Pink Wednesday - SpaRitual (Breast Cancer Awareness)

purchased by meThis week for "Pink Wednesday" I am swatching SpaRitual's Breast Cancer Awareness polish for you. There are three colors in the collection, Strawberry Fields Forever, Hope & Inspiration, and Idyllic. The way I understand it Hope & Inspiration is the only polish in this collection that is new. The other two were a part of the regular line. Here they are...

Nail Art Tuesday - Halloween Dots

Wednesday, October 15, 2014

purchased by me
I love this design! It is so simple, but really fun. I have gotten a lot of compliments on it when I was up town running errands. The colors are perfect for Halloween. (I was inspired for this design by Pinterest.)

I used four colors, orange, green, purple, and white, on a black background. I also used three sizes of dotting tools a large, a medium, and a tiny one. Here is the result...

Columbus Day - Canada's Thanksgiving Day

Tuesday, October 14, 2014

purchased by me
I am a day behind...which isn't unusual for me...because I was out of town this weekend. But I have two designs for you tonight. First an Indie Polish that is perfect for Columbus Day. Second, I got an orange polish when I was out of town and dressed it up for Halloween.

First I'll show you the Indie Polish. It is Pumpkin Spice and Everything Nice from Noodles Nail Polish. It is one of the prizes in the October Giveaway. I fell in love with it as soon as I saw it! I think it is beautiful.

Blogger Bragger Autumn Nail Art Challenge - Orange

Saturday, October 11, 2014

purchased by me
The "Blogger Bragger Autumn Nail Art Challenge" began last week.  I had a lot of people interested in it but only five posted. Please be aware that you can start this challenge anytime. So just jump in! Just visit us at https://www.facebook.com/groups/bloggerbragger/ and ask to join the group. You are also welcome to join us if don't want to participate. You don't even need to be a blogger!

This season the themes are just colors that way nail artists of all levels can participate. People can make their nail art as difficult or simple as they want! It also allows for unlimited creativity. There should be a huge variety in the designs. The link-up last week was very diverse.

The theme this week is "Orange" and I was inspired by The Chalkboard's Candied Orange Peel. I saw it and thought I have to try it. I don't have a light peach for the background so I used and off-white (Zoya Jacqueline) and covered it with a sheer peach (Sation Love at First Byte). I used acrylic paint instead of polish to create the swirls and topped it with Sally Hansen Snow Globe. It doesn't look exactly like hers but I'm happy with it.

Nails of the Day - Butter London Scallywag

Friday, October 10, 2014

purchased by me
Today's NOTD is a dazzling glitter from Butter London called Scallywag. I saw it when I was shopping on e-Bay a couple of months ago and it was just mesmerizing to me. I had to own it!

I decided to dress it up a little bit and it gave me a chance to use my new painters tape. I thought that painter tape would be good for masking off areas on the nail. It's not sticky enough to pull up the polish and it keeps straight lines (no bleeding under the tape). On this little design it worked great! I painted a "V" in green on my middle finger and used a green bow. I'm really into bows lately. Do you have a favorite nail embellishment?

So, here are the pictures...

Nail Art Tuesday - Gazing at the Moon

Wednesday, October 8, 2014

purchased by me
I have a couple of designs for you tonight. The first I did for a funeral. (That is also why I'm behind too.) I didn't want to go to my boyfriend's mother's funeral with a different design on each hand, which is what I usually have. So I did my nails to match on both hands. This is what I did to go with my black dress and wrap...
